The golf courses of the Mexican Caribbean have been closed due to the health crisis currently affecting every country around the world.

During the closures, the courses acquired different health certifications in preparation for the new protocols the industry will require not only to protect guests, but also their employees.

Starting June 8th, the Cancun and Riviera Maya areas will begin opening the following golf courses:

The World Travel & Tourism Council has announced that Cancun is the first destination in the American Continent to receive the Safe Travels stamp. This announcement will restore confidence in the sanitation measures put in place by the destination for travelers as tourism activities are reinstated.

The WTO has expressed its full support for the protocols issued by The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC). “Cancun subscribes to the precautionary and safety measures put in place for travelers, in addition to strongly promoting tourism,” said Carlos Joaquín González, Governor of Quintana Roo.

The Cancun Hotel Association, in collaboration with the tourism industry, launched a campaign called Come 2 Mexican Caribbean. This new campaign offers an incentive to the tourists who for years have positioned The Mexican Caribbean as one of the best tourist destinations in the world. The limited-time campaign, “Come to the Mexican Caribbean 2+2+20%,” offers a two-day car rental with AVIS with two additional days free, plus a 20% discount on the purchase of two rounds of golf on two different courses (4 rounds in total).

When the Bahia Principe in Riviera Maya decided to close their complex last April, they made sure to take into consideration the needs of their employees. Staff was invited to move into the hotel facilities with their families, allowing them to keep performing maintenance duties in the complex while operations were down. Employees and their families received room and board while keeping quarantine, thus making it a less stressful environment for all.

PGA Riviera Maya has trained and prepared the staff on the international standards required to maintain sanitary protocols and are 100% ready to open on June 8th.

In 2020, the Mayakoba Golf Classic will celebrate its 14th edition from December 3-6, when 132 professional golfers participate in four rounds of stroke play competition: each striving for their share of the US$7.2 million prize purse and an invitation to the Masters Tournament. The Mayakoba Golf Classic made golf history in 2007 when it became the first official PGA TOUR event to be held outside the United States and Canada.

The spectacular Mayakoba resort is firmly established as one of the favorite stops on TOUR for professionals, spectators, sponsors and the media thanks to the inviting Riviera Maya region, warm Mexican hospitality, diverse flora and fauna of the venue and the first-class quality of the Greg Norman designed El Camaleon Golf Course.

Spectators can enjoy a range of off-course events and amenities, in addition to the top-notch golf action, with a variety of culinary offerings and interactive activities, which highlight the Mexican culture and the fascinating Mayakoba resort.

The Tourism Promotion Council of Quintana Roo presented their new campaign to present what makes the Mexican Caribbean authentic and diverse. The region wants to showcase not only the beauty of the Caribbean, but also the uniqueness of each different destination. The Mexican Caribbean invites tourists to disconnect from their routine and live cultural experiences in the best natural settings.

This is the official website for the Mexican Caribbean Golf Association, where you can learn about the special offers available for golfers, as well access online purchases of golf rounds on any of the state’s 14 golf courses.
