The Jockey Club celebrates the 114th Visa Open de Argentina presentado por Macro

  • Colombian Ricardo Celia won the last tournament in Argentina; the PGA Tour Latinoamerica Tour Championship will be the last stop of the 2019 season.

The 114th Visa Open de Argentina presentado por Macro was successfully celebrated at the Jockey Club in Buenos Aires last weekend. Colombian Ricardo Celia was the winner of this event, breaking the Argentine winning streak in that country’s tournaments this year.

Celia hadn’t won a PGA Tour Latinoamerica title within the last four years. However, the wait was over in Buenos Aires: he is now a multiple-tournament champion. This victory improves Celia’s position in the Order of Merit, moving him from 55th to 13th, and earning him a playing spot in the 2020 Open Championship at the Royal St. George Golf Course in England.

The last event of the 2019 season will be the PGA Tour Latinoamerica Tour Championship; it will be hosted at the Trump National Doral Golden Palm in Miami, Florida December 5-8. Argentinean Augusto Nuñez will arrive to the tournament in first place on the Order of Merit with $117,234, leading the scoring average with 68.34; the second place in both categories is American Tom Whitney with $85,789 and a 69.15 average.

About the Jockey Club at Buenos Aires

There are two excellent golf courses within the Jockey Club: the Red (Colorado) with 6,577 yards and the Blue (Azul) with 6,378 yards. They were designed by British Allister MacKenzie during the 1930s. Both courses are par 72 with the 18th as the signature hole; both are about the same length, are straight, and have no bunkers. The Red course has also a couple of peculiar holes that world-class golfers would love: the one-shot 17th hole that showcases MacKenzie’s genius design, and the 10th hole, a shortish par 5 that requires accuracy and preciseness.

The Jockey Club is located in the community of San Isidro in the northern area of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The club was founded back in 1882 with horse racing and polo, though throughout the years it became a complete social club.

Since its creation it has been adding activities and services. Nowadays the Jockey Club’s members can practice a large number of sports including soccer, volley ball, tennis, fronton, and swimming among others. In addition, the facilities also offer amenities that serve everyone including a gym, club houses, bars and, restaurants. It is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 8:00 to 20:00.
